My horse is over excitable what should I feed it?

Your horse would probably benefit from a diet high in fibre and oil which will provide slow release energy rather than a cereal rich diet which provides fast release energy from starch and sugar which can aggravate excitability. Firstly ensure your horse isn’t getting too much feed for the work he is doing as this alone can lead to fizziness, (our trained staff in store can advise you on this) if not then switching to a diet low in starch and sugar should help. Feeding a broad spectrum feed supplement like TopSpec all in one or perhaps a balancer, alongside good hay or grass may provide all the nutrients required for work without the need for extra cereals. If additional energy is required then Dengie Alfa- A or similar should provide the level required without fizzing the horse. In situations where stress may be causing excitable or difficult behaviour one of our calming products like WCF magnesium calmer or NAF instant magic syringes can also help to encourage a calmer state of mind.
